After cardiac surgery, it is vital for patients to support their sternum.

The Patient Recovery Vest (PRV) has been designed and created for the purpose of keeping the protection pillow in place to support the sternum at all times. It is made from light weight mesh with velcro fastening for easy application and to provide a firm, supportive fit.

" I was involved in a trial of the Patient Recovery Vest (PRV) for cardiothoracic surgery patients after their operation. The vast majority of patients found them vey useful. In particular they reported increased confidence when doing their physiotherapy sessions and when starting to mobilise independently. The PRV effectively holds the patients sternal pillow in place, keeping the hands free but allowing patients to support their chests when required. The ward nursing staff found the vests simple to fit and were similarly positive about their use.

We saw no complications that could be attributed to the vests during the trial period.
